Mondays Finish the Story – July 20th, 2015
TITLE: The Petroglyph Stone
WORD COUNT: 150 words excluding the beginning sentence.
“The petroglyphs told the story of an unusual event.” My late mentor, Mr. Edgar Livingston, always used to say.
He had been a brilliant archaeologist but not everyone saw him that way. Most called him mad – a quack. The reason? Because he believed in the things unknown – long forgotten knowledge.
“You must always keep an open mind, Ezra. There are many things out there that have escaped history, many things others don’t want known to others. This petroglyph is one of those things they’d rather stay out of humans’ knowledge; a tragic tale.”
He dedicated his life to finding this thing and when he passed, I took up the mantle.
“We did it, master!” I shout, teary-eyed and laughing.
I had proof that he was a brilliant man right beneath my fingers. All it had cost was my family and fiancé but that doesn’t matter because Mr. Edgar was my only family. And proving him right was worth it.

I like it. It leaves me wondering what “forgotten knowledge” it was that Livingston believed the petroglyphs told about. Aliens? Atlantis? Philosopher’s Stone?
